TechNerd works because members treat each other with respect and share knowledge generously. These guidelines keep it that way.

TechNerd is a free community for people who work with their hands and their minds. Whether you're a seasoned tradesperson or a complete beginner, you belong here — as long as you follow these guidelines.
Be helpful, not condescending
Everyone starts somewhere. If someone asks a question that seems basic to you, answer it well or don't answer at all. Condescending replies, "just Google it" responses, and gatekeeping are not welcome here. The best communities lift people up.
Share real experience
When you answer a question, say what you actually know from experience. If you're not sure, say so. Bad advice in trades and technical fields can cause real harm. Accuracy matters more than sounding confident.
No spam or self-promotion
Don't post links to your products, services, YouTube channel, or affiliate links without prior approval. Occasional mentions in context are fine — "I wrote a guide on this" is different from dropping links in every thread. If you want to advertise, see our advertise page.
Keep it on topic
Each group has a focus. Keep your posts relevant to that group. Off-topic posts may be moved or removed. If you're not sure where something belongs, post in General or ask a moderator.
No harassment or hate
Personal attacks, harassment, slurs, and hate speech of any kind will result in an immediate ban. Disagreements about techniques or approaches are fine — attacks on people are not.
Safety first
If you're sharing advice about electrical work, welding, automotive repair, or anything else with safety implications, include relevant safety information. Don't encourage people to skip safety steps to save time or money.
Respect intellectual property
Don't post copyrighted content without permission. If you're sharing someone else's work — a photo, a guide, a video — credit the source and link to the original.
Moderator decisions are final
Our moderators are volunteers who keep this community running. If a moderator removes your post or asks you to change your behavior, respect that decision. You can appeal by emailing us, but arguing publicly with moderators is not acceptable.
Enforcement
Violations of these guidelines may result in post removal, a warning, a temporary suspension, or a permanent ban depending on severity and history. We try to be fair and consistent. If you see a violation, use the report button — don't engage with it publicly.
