China has & uses bamboo so well, the idea is to use rows of bamboo as a wind & sands catch, In between rows of grains or feed grass. If used well the bamboo could be used as a fence for small live stock & harvested & then roots burned to help enrich the soil. In between rows should be planted a replenishing crop or a hardy plant that will help regain a hold for soil & help support the next crop. As crops & bamboo are rotated, soil should be saved. Then have the bamboo burned & turned into the earth (along with organic waste) to help build & create new soil.
Saw an item on how ancient people in South America in an area with poor soil conditions made rich & fertile soil. With smaller herds of livestock & a wider assortment of crops rotated correctly China could slow stop or reclaim the land it needs to grow & live well
